SUMMARY

April 3, 2009 · Dan Myers at The Emerald of Siam Thai Restaurant in Richland, WA.

It’s pure Dan Myers as you’ve never heard him before. Utilizing the latest advances in technology, Dan creates an original, dynamic musical experience that can be exciting, soothing, dramatic and always interesting. You’ll hear piano, Native American flutes, shakuhachi, and personally recorded sounds of nature from a variety of Washington and Oregon locations. (Listen for the rain, the Ringold blackbirds and the softly flowing Sheep Creek tributary in Oregon.)

Dan blends and mixes the music with rhythms into a complete soundtrack that will make your soul sing and your feet dance.

J-Factor :: Asianology – Album

J-Factor

J-Factor

PRODUCED BY: J-FactorSeBS & wEBS, Various

FEATURES: MC Prophet

RELEASE DATES: 2003, 2008

Admirable 4th album from J-Factor. Featured numerous original beats from the Lotus music archive. J-Factor wished to self produce for a quick free-release, drawing more local attention to his music. The CD was notorious for having his phone number written on the surface. J-Factor refused to push this album as a full release with polished production. He assembled the cd and insisted on using it as a promotional tool throughout the Northwest. It worked; J-Factor’s star would rise in comparison to long-time contemporary,Vonell from Connell. MC Prophet, a prolific Othello, WA emcee that rapped with Lotus for many years before vanishing into obscurity. Much appreciated for his contributions, Prophet maintained a crew as well as a production team for projects throughout Adams and Grant County. J-Factor also featured him on album: Level 3.

Bossalaus: The Mark of the Lotus – Album

SUMMARY

First album from Lotus if one does not count No Samples Cleared: The Mixtape. Mark of the Lotus was originally intended to be part of the Bossalaus Trilogy. The idea was scrapped when creative differences drove disc 2: The Village Festival to become an event. Owners of a physical copy can observe the spine of the jewel case to find “2001-15″ or “2001-2015″, which was a beat-coding referring to the first 15 instrumental arrangements of the 2000 Series.

This album sounds like it comes from another place in another time. In terms of location, that statement is not far off the mark. Nobodies from Nowhere is what the members of Lotus will tell you if you ask them who they are and where they come from. Over Washington’s Cascade Mountains and across the plane of the Columbia Basin, nearly 300 miles from Seattle, WA, a matter of minutes away from the location where compact discs were invented and a short drive from the Hanford Site where the U.S. Government built an atomic bomb, is where Lotus makes music.

“This album serves as an introduction to the conversational and enjoyably, random style of Lotus. We kept the album simple and discreet in style as well as production value. There were so many ideas and complexity that we divided across future projects because we didn’t want to give too much, too soon. With very little compression the overall sound of the album is very close to the earth and warm to highlight the natural dynamics. This is where the beginning comes from; growing up in farming communities gives you a respect for the soil and the “bigness” of it all. It has been a united beginning for all of us and the music we put out are like our crops, and in terms of promotion and name recognition Mark of the Lotus is a seed crop of sorts, exactly what the title implies, a mark, a calling card, etc. ”

doode Jamz

PRODUCED BY: Sebastian Select, Grizzy Rockstar, J-Factor

RELEASE DATES: 2001, 2008

The ’01 throwback complete with bonus “SLOtus” editions of a few songs. Also included: the popular “Rockstar” original recording. Check out “Last Night Stereo” for a rare example of a J-Factor beat.

Interesting Facts:

  • Rivalry between Connell,WA and Othello,WA began when smaller town: Connell received a zip code before Othello. Most evident in high school sports, the competition remains rich. Song “LastNightStereo” features the Clever One chorus: “like ya’ll from Othello tryin’ to be so hard…” and in the tradition of the rivalry, J-Factor would like listeners to know that he harbors no hate for Othello. “I’ve made a lot of friends [from Othello] over the years. This song is from high school and shouldn’t get any new beefs fired up.”
  • Griz is gonna be a rockstar”. This is the original recording of one of the most notorious songs to come out of the triple4. The song was later re-recorded and remixed with J-Factor to release as a B-Side to The Pelican Song. A notable example of lyricism that still squashes any local or regional comparisons. Weak ass rhymes indeed.

The Mixtape, as it was commonly referred to, was recorded in 3 weeks. A collection of high school songs that underwent fresh production became a compilation. It set the stage for long distribution cycle and a wake up call to the local scene.  The album was symbolic of the Bossalaus beginnings and the formation of the Lotus production team.  Crews combined, rap names changed, the scene responded; No Samples Cleared changed the way Tri-Cities hip-hop was perceived and improved the overall execution of music marketing throughout the area. Though it was locally influential, the disc was more important to the procurement of what was happening within the Lotus camp: Vonell would successfully distribute 3 of his own albums, J-Factor would self produce nearly 6, and Sebastian Select delivered 2 strong releases while producing thousands of beats for rappers inside and outside of the movement. On the heels of this mixtape was the experimental hip-hop album, Bossalaus: The Mark of the Lotus, a collaborative effort by the newly assembled Lotus, produced by Grizzy Rockstar, Sebastian Select and Bevon the Muse.

Interesting Facts:

  • Long before joining Bossalaus, a young Wero was present at the album launch party,  inspired and driven to be rewarded years later by meeting Sebastian Select and forming the 509 Wreckerz faction.
  • oldmixtapeThe Mixtape’s first cover featured this sexy silver woman. Despite her disappearance, the album distributed itself admirably. As a followup to the ’97 EP Get Down, this album was a flagship declaration of where Lotus was headed.
  • Vonell’s rap name was Hazard 1, Bevon’s rap name was Xavier.
  • The original “LM” logo stands for “Lotus Music” and was the team’s disk jockey business identification.

SUMMARY

Bamboo flute and synthesizer impressions.

Winds of Wonder

Whispering down the canyons of an emptied mind,
Winds of Wonder.
Truth, simply caught outside of time.
Waking from the dream of thoughts not real,
I see myself lying still,
Still beneath the Covers of the river’s bed.
A spark upon the waters,
Then the parting of the sea,
My spirit slowly rising, looking back at me.
In awe I can no longer speak of what I see.
Let stillness be the throne from which
This music reigns, the joy of life
Hereby expressed within these sounds.

Epic-V

Feathered friends in flight
No stocks or bonds, these free creatures
who willingly combine their strengths in a V
For me to see.
I, like they, without a thought,
Accept the season’s reason to fly untiringly
Towards that perfect spot
For which I was designed.

The Purr-fect Cat

The purr-fect cat, he knows where it’s at
His rumbling motor, it’s really quite adoring,
Although there are some who seem to think it’s just snoring.
Perhaps from this group come the ones who resent,
Who say, “What right do you have to be so content?
Why, you’ve done nothing except chase rainbows and balls,
With that kind of energy, you could have had it all.”
And from that curled up place,
From that soft purring face,
Without even a blink of an eye,
Not even an instant given to the likes of Man, Who must understand.
“To do what I do is to do what I do,
And I do not need to explain it to you.”
